Apple’s rumored foldable MacBook Pro, originally slated to debut in 2025, is facing significant delays and may not be released until late 2027 or even 2028, according to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The project, which was expected to feature an all-new 20.3-inch all-screen design, has encountered technical challenges that have pushed its timeline back by several years.

Kuo reports that Apple has decided to abandon the 20.3-inch version and has instead “confirmed” a final display size of 18.8 inches, though he did not provide specific details to support this claim. His insights are based on his supply chain surveys, which also suggest growing skepticism about the launch of a foldable iPad.

Initially, Kuo and other analysts, including research firm CCS Insight, anticipated that Apple would introduce a foldable iPad in 2024, with some reports even hinting that Samsung was preparing for the same. However, Kuo now indicates that there is no solid evidence to suggest that a foldable iPad will arrive in 2025, as some believe.

As reported by AppleInsider, Kuo speculates that the confusion may stem from some industry insiders conflating the foldable MacBook with a foldable iPad, given that the distinction between the two could largely depend on whether the device runs macOS or iPadOS.

While Apple has remained tight-lipped about its plans for foldable devices, the company has filed numerous patents related to folding display technology. The most frequently rumored result of this research is the potential iPhone Fold, which has garnered significant attention. However, with the foldable MacBook Pro now facing delays, it remains unclear when Apple will bring its first folding screen device to market.
